Dear Parent or Guardian,
In the spring of 2019, all PYLUSD K-12th grade English Learners took part in the 2019 English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC). Typically, we have had to wait several months before receiving student score reports. This year, however, the state is transitioning from a paper to an electronic delivery for Student Score Report (SSRs). We are pleased to report that student score reports for the ELPAC assessment are now available for viewing electronically via the Aeries Student Portal.
The Summative English Language Proficiency Assessments for California, or “Summative ELPAC,” is the test used to measure how well students understand English when it is not the language they speak at home. Information from the ELPAC tells your child’s teacher about the areas in which your child needs extra support.
Students in kindergarten through grade twelve who are classified as English learners are administered the Summative ELPAC every year until they are reclassified as proficient in English. Students are tested on their skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
To learn more about the ELPAC, go to the California Department of Education Parent Guides to Understanding Web page at www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca/parentguidetounderstand.asp. You can also look at sample test questions on the practice tests, which can be found on the ELPAC Web site at www.elpac.org/resources/practicetests/.
These results will also be provided to your child’s school, where they may be used to help set learning goals for students this year. We invite you to take an active part in those discussions. If you have questions or concerns about your child’s progress, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s school office for further information.
