Dear PYLUSD Community,
I want to begin this letter by expressing our sincere gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to our local first responders, all of whom continue to sacrifice and work tirelessly to safeguard our Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) community. The Blue Ridge Fire in Yorba Linda has given our school district another important opportunity to strengthen our emergency response procedures with local fire authorities and law enforcement to ensure planning, training, and response to such instances of uncertainty continue to operate efficiently.
As we mentioned yesterday, the Blue Ridge Fire continues to affect the City of Yorba Linda and surrounding areas; however, Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) is now reporting that the blaze is 16% contained as of 9:30 AM. Mandatory and voluntary evacuations still remain in place, but will begin to be lifted as the fire shifts out of the area, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD).
As a result, all PYLUSD schools will resume regularly scheduled hybrid instruction (in-person and online) on Thursday, October 29, with the exception of Bryant Ranch and Travis Ranch schools in Yorba Linda. Bryant Ranch and Travis Ranch schools will participate in 100% synchronous remote learning on Thursday and Friday of this week with the hope of returning to campuses for in-person hybrid instruction on Monday, November 2. Child care services will also resume at all PYLUSD sites on Thursday and Friday of this week with the exception of Bryant Ranch and Travis Ranch schools.
This decision was once again made in consultation with OCSD and OCFA, and took into account several additional factors including:
- Many of the Yorba Linda residents still under mandatory or voluntary evacuation orders are in the Bryant Ranch/Travis Ranch area, which will participate in 100% remote learning rather than in-person instruction for the remainder of the week
- Air quality continues to improve in our area and may still restrict the use of outdoor spaces; however, PYLUSD will shift procedures accordingly on school campuses to adhere to recommendations from the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD)
- Areas within PYLUSD boundaries are no longer under consideration for Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) by Southern California Edison (SCE)
- City officials will not need the two PYLUSD school sites initially reserved as overflow Temporary Evacuation Point (TEP) locations for families displaced by the Blue Ridge Fire
- Maintenance and Facilities staff will complete their assessments and necessary cleaning/repairs of all PYLUSD campuses today

Actualización sobre los Incendios de Blue Ridge y el Regreso a Clases para el Día Jueves 29 de Octubre en Adelante
Estimada comunidad de PYLUSD,
Quiero comenzar esta carta expresando nuestra más sincera gratitud y nuestro más sincero agradecimiento a nuestros socorristas locales, todos los cuales continúan sacrificándose y trabajando incansablemente para salvaguardar nuestra comunidad del Distrito Escolar Unificado Placentia Yorba Linda (PYLUSD). El incendio Blue Ridge en Yorba Linda, le ha dado a nuestro distrito escolar otra oportunidad importante para fortalecer nuestros procedimientos de respuesta ante emergencias con las autoridades locales de bomberos y policía para garantizar que la planificación, capacitación y respuesta a tales casos de incertidumbre, continúen operando de manera eficiente.
Como mencionamos ayer, el incendio en Blue Ridge continúa afectando la ciudad de Yorba Linda y las áreas circundantes; sin embargo, la Autoridad de Bomberos del Condado de Orange (OCFA), ahora informa que el incendio estaba contenido en un 16% a las 9:30 a.m. Las evacuaciones obligatorias y voluntarias aún permanecen vigentes, pero comenzarán a levantarse a medida que el fuego salga del área, según el Departamento del Sheriff del Condado de Orange (OCSD).
Como resultado, todas las escuelas de PYLUSD reanudarán la instrucción híbrida programada regularmente (en persona y en línea) el jueves 29 de octubre, con la excepción de las escuelas Bryant Ranch y Travis Ranch en Yorba Linda. Las escuelas Bryant Ranch y Travis Ranch participarán en aprendizaje remoto 100% sincrónico el jueves y viernes de esta semana, con la esperanza de regresar a los campus escolares para recibir instrucción híbrida en persona el lunes 2 de noviembre. - Los funcionarios de la ciudad, no necesitarán los dos planteles escolares de PYLUSD inicialmente reservados como lugares de puntos de evacuación temporal (TEP) para familias desplazadas por el incendio de Blue Ridge
- El personal de Mantenimiento e Instalaciones, completará sus evaluaciones y limpieza/reparaciones necesarias de todos los campus de PYLUSD, el día de hoy.
