Dear PYLUSD School Community,
As a long-time educator, I have formed the belief that the two best days of the year are always the first day of school and the last day of school! Fortunately for myself, I got to experience my extra "first day of school" today as I joined the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District family. In my brief time here I have witnessed the passion and dedication to our students that have forged the outstanding reputation our district is known for throughout the county and state.
My commitment to all of you is that our focus will always be on what is best for students. The pandemic hit our kids like a tsunami; greatly impacting them socially, emotionally, and academically. As the pandemic comes to a close and the waters recede, the impacts of the school lockdowns and distance learning lay bare the monumental effects on our students. As parents and educators, we are seeing increased learning gaps, exacerbated special needs, increases in anxiety and depression, as well as many other challenges facing today's youth.
The good news is that this community cares deeply about the health and welfare of our kids! Together, we will work to provide sound curriculum, focused intervention, and parental and community engagement, to ensure that all PYLUSD students are given the best we have to offer.
It's an honor to serve as your superintendent of schools. Let's get to work!

Estimada Comunidad Escolar de PYLUSD,
Como educador desde hace mucho tiempo, he formado la creencia de que los dos mejores días del año son siempre el primer día de clases y el último día de clases. Afortunadamente para mí, tuve la oportunidad de experimentar mi "primer día de clases" extra, el día de hoy cuando me uní a la familia del Distrito Escolar Unificado Placentia-Yorba Linda. En mi breve tiempo aquí, he sido testigo de la pasión y dedicación a nuestros estudiantes que han forjado la excelente reputación por la que nuestro distrito es conocido en todo el condado y el estado.
Mi compromiso con todos ustedes es que nuestro enfoque siempre estará en lo que es mejor para los estudiantes. La pandemia golpeó a nuestros hijos como un tsunami; impactándolos grandemente social, emocional y académicamente. A medida que la pandemia llega a su fin y las aguas retroceden, los impactos de los cierres escolares y el aprendizaje a distancia dejan al descubierto los efectos monumentales en nuestros estudiantes. Como padres y educadores, estamos viendo mayores brechas de aprendizaje, necesidades especiales exacerbadas, aumentos en ansiedad y depresión, así como muchos otros desafíos que enfrentan los jóvenes de hoy.
¡La buena noticia es que esta comunidad se preocupa profundamente por la salud y el bienestar de nuestros niños! Juntos, trabajaremos para proporcionar un plan de estudios sólido, una intervención enfocada y la participación de los padres y la comunidad, para garantizar que todos los estudiantes de PYLUSD reciban lo mejor que tenemos para ofrecer.
