FAQs
2020 PYLUSD Senior FAQs
Will there be a graduation ceremony?
Due to the state’s recommendation of definite school closures, we regretfully inform you that we will be unable to hold our traditional June graduation ceremonies. Our high school leadership teams will begin developing alternative plans for celebrating seniors’ accomplishments in June, while holding out hope that a more traditional graduation celebration could occur in early August. Thank you for your patience as we continue to plan the Class of 2020’s recognition.
Will the District/schools sponsor or facilitate senior celebrations outside of what is being planned for June? And potentially August?
No. Unfortunately, the District and its high schools cannot sponsor or help facilitate senior recognitions other than our own alternative plans for celebrating seniors' accomplishments in June and potentially August. Families and community members are welcome to plan recognitions for their seniors independent from the District and its high schools. However, the District encourages you to do so while abiding by all health measures recommended to help stop the spread of coronavirus including 6ft social distancing, face coverings, and Governor Gavin Newsom's open-ended "stay at home" order currently in place. Thank you for your patience as we continue to plan the Class of 2020’s recognition.
Have the academic graduation requirements changed?
No. Seniors are still expected to meet the credit requirements for their high school of attendance.
Have the Community Service hours graduation requirements changed?
Yes. Seniors who were not able to complete the required number of hours of community services will be exempted from these requirements due to the social distancing requirements.
Should we buy a cap and gown?
As plans for an August commencement ceremony become more defined, your school will reach out to you with details.
Will there be a Grad Night celebration? How will refunds be given?
Grad Night celebrations are tied to graduation ceremonies, plans for June Grad Night festivities have been cancelled. Each school will provide more information on how refunds will be issued.
Will there be a Senior Awards ceremony?
